The first shipment of emergency medical supplies from Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has arrived in Kiev, the international humanitarian organization said in a statement.
Supplies include surgical kits, trauma kits, medication for chronic illnesses and supplies for mass casualties.
They will be donated to local hospitals in the capital and other cities further east in Ukraine.
“It was urgent to do this as soon as possible,” said Christopher Stokes, MSF’s emergency coordinator in Ukraine, according to the statement.
“We may be in a race against time here – we are not sure how long train access to Kiev will continue to be possible. We opted for the train option for reasons of speed and large volume capacity,” he added.
Doctors Without Borders is an international organization that provides medical and humanitarian aid to populations in emergency situations, such as war.
