Fisherman dies after cyclone Yakecan passes through Rio Grande do Sul

A 51-year-old man died in Rio Grande do Sul after the passage of subtropical cyclone Yakecan, which hit southern Brazil on Monday night (16).

According to the Fire Department, the body of a fisherman was found in Lake Guaíba this Tuesday morning (17).

The information is that the fisherman was on Ilhota do Arado and tried to return to Porto Alegre, when the boat he was in capsized due to the weather situation. The other person on board was rescued alive.

The Yakecan arrived on the coast of Rio Grande do Sul and should pass through Santa Catarina and Paraná, as well as the south of the state of São Paulo, according to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet).

Wind gusts can reach 100 kilometers per hour and evolve throughout the day.

The director of the National Center for Risk and Disaster Management (Cenad), Armin Braun, said in a press conference on Monday (16) that the responsible bodies have already started warnings of disaster risk in the south of the country.

“We are already in coordination with the municipalities of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina. We have already communicated with the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Women, Family and Human Rights, the Ministry of Citizenship and the Ministry of Health.
