Flávio Dino extends the use of the National Force in Brasilia until February 4

The Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, extended this Monday (23) the use of the National Force in Brasília after the criminal acts of January 8. The extension extends until the 4th of February. The ordinance was published in the Official Gazette (DOU) this Monday.

According to the text, the security forces aim to “assist in the protection of public order and public and private property between the Brasília Bus Station and Praça dos Três Poderes, as well as in the protection of other assets of the Union located in Brasília”.

The use of the National Force had already been authorized by Dino on January 7, the day before the criminal acts.

According to the policy analyst at CNN Basília Rodrigues, the National Secretariat for Public Security should gather all the secretaries of this area next Thursday (26) to reaffirm the dialogue with the police forces of each unit of the federation.

Local managers are directly responsible for the security plans of their states, which includes the work of the Civil and Military Police.

The meeting was scheduled by the national secretary, Tadeu Alencar. Within the government, Alencar is one of the voices defending the military police for their actions on January 8, when thousands of protesters invaded the center of Brasília.

For the secretary, they only “received orders”, and their commanders should be held accountable. Recently, on social media, he stated that the federal government’s complaints about the role of the PMDF would not be “an attack on the police as an institution, but on the leaders who, at that time, had the responsibility of giving orders”.

The speech in defense of the institutions, including the police, should be Alencar’s agenda in the meeting with the secretaries.

The national secretary of Public Security also supports the expansion of the Pacto Pela Vida program, which had successful results in Pernambuco in reducing crime and homicide rates.
