Floods in Rio Grande do Sul are the topic of a meeting of businesspeople at the UN

Brazilian businesspeople participated in the third edition of the UN Global Compact, in New York, this Tuesday (14).

During the event, a video of the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite, was broadcast. He thanked the outpouring of solidarity amid the floods in the state and asked businesspeople for help.

“We went through the greatest tragedy in our history, we recorded loss of human life, destruction of cities, we are feeling immense pain. But the current of solidarity from Brazil and the world warms our hearts and gives us the confidence that we will emerge stronger”, stated the governor.

“I would like to thank individuals and companies who are mobilizing to help. The Gauchos have this strength, but it becomes even greater with your support. Thank you so much and keep helping,” she added.

The CEO of the Global Compact, Carlo Pereira, also participated. Launched in 2000, the UN Global Compact is an initiative by the organization to mobilize businesspeople around the world to achieve the so-called 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“Everyone here has their head and thoughts focused on Rio Grande do Sul, which is why I made a point of asking the governor to record a message to reinforce the importance of everyone’s engagement,” said Carlo Pereira.
