Floods in RS: owner says he placed mare on the 3rd floor of building to save animal

A mare has been isolated on the third floor of a building in a condominium in the city of São Leopoldo for 10 days, since Sunday (12). According to Dirceu Matias, the animal's owner, he placed it there to protect it during the flood.

A CNN , Matias explained that initially the animals were housed on the second floor, however, as the water level rose, they needed to be transferred to the third floor. Since Sunday, Matias has been sheltered at the Clodomir Vanna Moog Municipal School.

Matias, who lives in a farm in front of the condominium, said he had permission from the condominium owner to shelter the animals there. He also mentioned having managed to save his other four dogs at the start of the flood and expressed his concern, as the mare in question also belongs to his daughters. Two oxen were also taken to the same building, but have already been rescued and are safe at the Chácara.

Sônia Maria Cherutti, director of the school where Matias is housed, told CNN that one of the school's lunch ladies delivered a bag of food to the firefighters on Sunday, but so far the firefighters have not provided the food to the animal. According to her, the horse has been alone since then and only began to be rescued today.

A CNN is awaiting a response from the fire department, responsible for rescuing the animal, but has not yet received any clarification.
