Foreign Minister of Cyprus: We are next to the tested Ukrainian people

We stand by the tested Ukrainian people and we are ready to continue to support them in practice, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus Ioannis Kasoulidis.

Speaking on the occasion of the sending of a second package of humanitarian aid from Cyprus to the Ukrainian people, Mr. Kasoulidis said that from the first moment with the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, a humanitarian aid campaign was launched in Cyprus with the instructions of the Ukrainian people. President of the Republic of Cyprus and coordinated actions under the commission of the Citizen Panagiotis Sentonas, for the collection of food, pharmaceutical material and other essential items. Instructions were also given for opening a bank account, to which citizens and organizations continue to contribute generously.

The first Cypriot humanitarian aid mission to Ukraine was sent on March 8th. It has already arrived in Poland and from there it is promoted to Ukraine. The second shipment was sent yesterday, Tuesday 5 April, via Romania, again through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, noted Mr. Kasoulidis, to point out that the two shipments included a total of 215 tons of material, worth more than 2 million euros. . These include food aid, civil protection equipment, medical / pharmaceutical supplies and other basic necessities.

“For Cyprus, according to the available data, this is the largest mission of humanitarian aid. The large amount of material collected, in addition to the contributions of the coordinated State, is a result of the contributions of individuals and proves the solidarity of the Cypriots to its people. In addition to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Civil Defense, the National Guard, the Ports Authority, the Ministry of Health, and the Red Cross, in addition to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made a decisive contribution to the whole effort. “It has also contributed financially, through international organizations, to support both Ukraine and neighboring countries, such as Moldova, in dealing with the refugee crisis. The total amount of these contributions exceeds 150 thousand euros”, stressed Mr. Kasoulidis .

For his part, the responsible Commissioner of Citizens, Panagiotis Sentonas, stated that the second Cypriot humanitarian aid package includes pharmaceuticals and medical equipment, civil protection materials, personal hygiene items sent by the Cyprus Red Cross, and food provided by citizens, organized groups and companies, and the whole process takes place through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, which carries out the largest humanitarian aid operation to date.

After warmly thanking all those who contributed to this mission, Mr. Sentontas also noted that the special bank account is operational for anyone who wishes and can contribute.
