France Calls Back Its Ambassador From Turkey

Following Recep Tayyip’s recent remarks on the mental state of his French counterpart, Emanuel Macron, the state of France has called back its ambassador from the Republic of Turkey. Erdogan had recently implied that Macron’s actions against Muslims and their religion depict that he requires mental treatment.

The two states have been constantly at odds regarding various issues of international importance including, but not limited to, the war in Syria and the conflict in Libya. Macron’s anti-Islamic statements have also played their part in the further deterioration of relations between the two.

Reacting to Tayyip Erdogan’s  recent statements, the country of France has made it clear that such rude statements are unacceptable. A French spokesperson stated that the Turkish president would have to change the way he dealt with such issues since passing such remarks is a dangerous way to tackle problems.

The French ambassador was recalled from Ankara, Turkey to evaluate the recent happenings. Aside from the war of words between the two, the French government is also concerned about Erdogan’s call to boycott products from France. Another matter of concern for the Western European state is the fact that Erdogan did not condemn the murder of a French teacher. Samuel had been killed earlier this month by a youngster who had been offended by the teacher’s showcase of  religiously hurtful content in his class.

The killing has sparked racist attacks in the country, as evident by the stabbing incident in Paris.  Most fear that Macron’s anti-Islamist approach is legitimizing the already wide spread Islamophobia in the country and could cause further divides in the French society.
