The very touristic city of Nice, the capital of the Cote d’Azur, has decided to reinstate the mandatory use of masks in public transport, faced with the seventh wave of Covid-19 that is affecting France.
“I took my decision together with other mayors of the metropolis of Nice so that from Monday everyone will have to wear a mask” on the 2,500 km of the bus and tram network, Nice mayor Christian Estrozzi told RTL television today.
The government is currently limited to recommending the use of masks on public transport, without enforcing it, but for Mayor Estrozi “it will be forced to bring it back, because 200,000 cases more in less than 24 hours… we see very clearly that we are facing a The 7th wave that is soaring and leading us into a new high-risk school year.”
The number of Covid-19 infections rose to more than 206,000 in the last 24 hours, according to figures from France’s Public Health Service released on Tuesday night.
On Tuesday, new health minister François Bron urged a second booster dose (4th dose) for the most vulnerable people and recommended mask use “in places where there is overcrowding”.
