France: Video of youths attacking a police station after the death of an 18-year-old in a chase

A police station in La Courneve, near Paris, was attacked on Sunday night with Molotov cocktails, following the death of an 18-year-old in a chase last week. Shortly before 23:00 local time, around 50 people gathered and threw stones and improvised bombs at the police station. Damage was limited to a broken window and some traces of fire. Two policemen were slightly injured in the hand. After reinforcements were called in, the riots broke up. Nine people were arrested – seven are adults, aged 18-21, and two are minors, according to Paris police chief Laurent Nunies. “We did it to ask for justice for Ouanis, even though his big brother asked for calm,” said one young man, who asked not to be named, referring to the death of an 18-year-old from La Courneve who was killed in a police chase on last wednesday. “We are not worried about new attacks” and “we will take measures throughout the community in the coming days,” Nunes said after visiting workers at the police station.
