Joy Black was sitting with a friend during her break from work on Wednesday (21) when she received an unexpected call from Saudi Arabia – to tell her that fiancé Andy Tai Ngoc Huynh was coming home.
“It’s kind of indescribable. I was still kind of in shock so I thought ‘How do I know it’s really you? It’s really him,'” Black told Erin Burnett of CNN .
This was his first conversation with Huynh since June 8th. “It was so amazing to finally be able to hear his voice again and talk to him,” she said.
Captured in Ukraine
Huynh and another American, Alexander John-Robert Drueke, were captured in June while fighting in Ukraine. They were released, along with eight other men, in a prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine, led by the Saudi Arabian government.
“It’s so good to know they’re okay and they’re going home,” Black said.
Huynh could return as early as Friday, she said, adding that he has a special request for his return home to Alabama: spaghetti and beef, which he had been craving while in Ukraine.
