Qatar hopes to start sending liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Germany in 2024, the Gulf Deputy Prime Minister told the German newspaper Handelsblatt today, according to Reuters.

“We want to have the Golden Pass liquefied natural gas plant in the US in Texas, in which Qatar Energy holds 70% of the shares, ready to start deliveries to Germany as early as 2024,” said Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. who is also Qatar’s Foreign Minister.

Later today, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will hold talks with German Chancellor Olaf Solz in Berlin.

German plans to build liquefied natural gas terminals are accelerating as the country seeks to break free of cheaper Russian gas imports in response to Moscow’s attack on Ukraine.
