A touch of nobility on the Croisette is never lacking. In this 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival that has just ended, they thought about it Amelia and Eliza SpencerDiana’s granddaughtersAnd Charlotte Casiraghi to bring some royal beauty to the red carpet. Amelia and Eliza, the two 29-year-old daughters of Earl Charles Spencer, attended the preview of the film Top Gun: Maverick. While Charlotte and her husband Dimitri Rassambeautiful, accomplices and more in love than ever, walked the red carpet on the occasion of the screening of the film Brother & Sister with Marion Cotillard. On the other hand, a long history links the most important film festival in Europe to royal families. Year after year, decade after decade, royals have always attracted the attention of photographers and fans (see gallery under).
It was 1955 when he landed in Cannes Grace Kellyat the height of her film career and fresh Academy Award winner for performance in The country girl. That trip to Europe changed the life of the American star forever, because she introduced her to her future husband, the prince Rainier of Monaco. The Cannes Film Festival of 1987 instead it is remembered essentially for two reasons. The first is that he who won the Palme d’Or – among the whistles – was Under the Sun of Satan by Maurice Pialatpreferred to Wim Wenders’ masterpiece The sky above Berlin. The second was the appearance of the princess Diana in Cannes with a breathtaking sky blue dress. That May 15th Diana and Prince Charles they arrived on the Croisette for a specific reason: to attend the British Film Day during which a solemn tribute to Alec Guinness would be held.
If the participation of British royalty in Cannes is a more unique than rare event – apart from a few forays of Sarah Fergusononce with his daughter Beatrice of York – for the Ranieri the Croisette is a second home. In the 1980s the undisputed star was Caroline of Monaco. Splendid in particular in 1989, accompanied on the red carpet by her husband Stefano Casiraghi that just over a year later he would tragically die at sea in a catamaran accident. Fixed guest of the Cannes Film Festival is also Albert II. In the 2011to accompany the Prince of Monaco to the Croisette – or rather, to take away the scene – was there Charlène, who a few months later (July 11) would become his wife. The royal couple attended the Amfar Cinema Against Aids Gala ceremony. Also Pierre Casiraghi, as a boy, he enjoyed attending parties and premieres in Cannes. Like in 2007, when he showed up in front of photographers with shoulder-length hair and sunglasses.
