Fuel prices remain stable for the second week in a row

The weekly price bulletin from the National Petroleum Agency points to stability in the prices of the main fuels in the country, for the second consecutive week. According to the report, gasoline and natural gas for vehicles (CNG) maintained the values of R$ 6.74 and R$ 4.30, respectively, registered in the week of November 21st to 27th. Diesel and cooking gas had a slight decrease of R$ 0.01 and R$ 0.20, respectively.

Ethanol, which had its first drop in Brazil since the last week of July, also fluctuated around cents. In the last week verified, the fuel was costing an average of R$ 5.39, compared to R$ 5.30 registered that week.

According to the professor at Ibmec-RJ and director of the Institute for Applied Economic Research, José Ronaldo Souza Júnior, the value of a barrel of oil and the exchange rate are the main variables that explain this stability.

“In the last month, the price of a barrel dropped from US$ 80 to US$ 70 and, in this case, the derived product has a direct influence, and a very strong one. Another point is the exchange rate variation. Despite the devaluation, it has been stable”, says the expert.

The specialist adds that only a significant drop in the price of oil, or an improvement in the exchange rate, would cause a drop in the price of these fuels.

The state of Rio de Janeiro continues to be the most expensive gasoline in the country, with an average price of R$7.26. The most expensive CNG was found in Ceará, costing R$ 4.89. Acre is the highlight in terms of diesel prices, R$ 6.48, and is the only state with a fuel price above six reais.
