G. Chatzitheodosiou: The non-implementation of teleworking affects entrepreneurship

There are a variety of companies that could operate normally through teleworking. Entrepreneurship does not have the luxury of “getting on the ice”. This was stated by the president of the Central Union of Chambers and the Professional Chamber of Athens, Giannis Chatzitheodosiou, referring to the measures taken to deal with the bad weather.

Mr. Hatzitheodosiou emphasizes: “The response to the bad weather was not the right one, resulting in the suffering of the citizens and the paralysis of the economic life. Even the Prime Minister admitted that there were failures and inadequacies in the operational part.

We fully understand that such intense phenomena as the snowstorm that hit the country – but mainly Attica – are often difficult to deal with effectively. But we expected that – after the experience we have gained from the pandemic – there would be a design that would allow everything not to die.

I am referring mainly to the operation of companies. I think it makes sense to try to reduce the movement of citizens, in order to avoid unpleasant developments, such as more cages or some injuries due to the slippery roads due to frost. But what is difficult to understand is the fact that teleworking was not allowed. There are plenty of businesses that could operate normally. It is also something that has been successfully tested during these two years of the pandemic and as a chamber community we have reported many positive words about this development based on the technological means that we now have at our disposal.

So what happened now and the teleworking was not implemented? Why do companies lack the ability to produce a project? Either we have the infrastructure and the ability to work remotely as a country or we do not. It is a real pity that such horizontal measures are introduced in the operation of the business, especially at a time when the accumulated problems threaten the viability of the majority of companies.

Entrepreneurship does not have the luxury of “getting on the ice”. Every day that passes increases the obligations of the business world and in order to be repaid it is necessary to have a turnover. “Entrepreneurship needs strengthening and support, not more bans.”
