Galaxy AI, Samsung’s suite of artificial intelligence (AI) features for phones, is set to become a paid feature in less than two years. The suite of tools was launched in January this year and is available for a range of phones and tablets.
“Galaxy AI features will be available for free through the end of 2025 on compatible Samsung Galaxy devices,” the company’s website states. “Samsung makes no promises or guarantees regarding the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of the results provided by the AI features.”
Galaxy AI was introduced in January 2024, along with the latest models in the Samsung Galaxy S line. It involves using artificial intelligence as a way to enhance mechanisms already offered by Samsung and to create mechanisms not yet launched by the company.
For now, there is no information on how the payment will be made or how much it will cost. Currently, Galaxy AI provides text summarization functions, photo editing, support for writing messages, among other features.
More recently, for example, it was announced that Galaxy AI could soon bring a special simultaneous translator to WhatsApp that would be able to translate quickly and accurately. In addition to the messenger, the function would also be available for apps such as Google Meets and WeChat.
All this for free — at least for now.
But paying for AI isn’t exactly new. A few months ago, Samsung’s CEO mentioned the possibility of charging for the brand’s use of artificial intelligence. Now, however, the idea is becoming more concrete.
On July 10, the Galaxy Unpacked event will take place in Paris, where new Samsung launches will be discussed and revealed. Therefore, there is a possibility that, at the event, more information will be provided about the expansion of the use of Galaxy AI and about the charging that will be carried out in the future.
