George Santos challenges US Congress to vote on his expulsion from the party

George Santos, American deputy for the Republican party, challenged the United States parliamentarians this Thursday (30), before a vote scheduled for this Friday (1), which could expel him from Congress.

At 35, Santos, who is serving his first term in office and has been in Congress for less than a year, faces criminal campaign financing charges and admitted to having lied about a large part of his biography.

In an extraordinary session to debate the case, three republicans joined the defense of the deputy son of Brazilians and argued against the expulsion of Santos for procedural reasons. Eight Democrats and Republicans called for his impeachment.

This is not the first time that deputies have voted to expel George Santos. In early November, he survived his expulsion, but the expectation is that the deputy’s stay in office will be further challenged.

A bipartisan congressional investigation released after the first vote provided evidence that he had spent campaign money on cosmetic procedures such as Botox, products from luxury brands such as Hermes and for use on OnlyFans, an online platform known for sexual content.
