MEC suspends creation of new distance learning courses for 90 days

The Ministry of Education suspended authorization for the creation of new distance learning courses for 90 days. The ordinance was published this Thursday (30) in the Official Gazette of the Union and according to the MEC, it aims to complete the preparation of a proposal for regulating the provision of distance learning courses.

The measure also bars educational institutions with an Institutional Concept score of less than 4 in distance learning.

For Priscila Cruz, executive president of Todos Pela Educação, the ordinance is a positive step towards understanding and evaluating policies related to distance learning. According to her, undergraduate courses, which train teachers, are those that need the most attention.

“The way a student is trained has an impact on how they will be as a teacher. The experience of being in the classroom, interacting and observing the teacher leading the classroom is necessary. It is impossible to train this teacher in the distance learning modality” he explains.
