The kilowatt hour will be increased by 2,419 euros from October 1 for residential and business customers, due to the so-called “natural gas levy”, the German Ministry of Economy announced today.
According to estimates by the BILD newspaper, the levy could mean an additional burden of around 480 euros per year (excluding VAT) for a household of four.
For its part, Handelsblatt notes that the increases will not be immediately felt by consumers, “but it is clear that prices will increase dramatically as a result of the levy”, which aims to cover 90% of the extra costs that providers are asked to pay for the supply of natural gas.
Until now, companies have not had the right to pass this cost on to their customers.
