An Iranian man, aged 32, was arrested in the western city of Castrop-Rouxelles Germanyaccused of planning a terrorist attack using dangerous chemicals.
In a joint statement issued by the Dusseldorf public prosecutor’s office and the police departments of Recklinghausen and Münster, it is stated that the 32-year-old was suspected of preparing an Islamic-motivated attack. He was allegedly trying to obtain cyanide and ricin to use in terrorist attack.
On Saturday night, a search was carried out at the 32-year-old Iranian’s residence in Castrop-Rouxel, a town located about 15 kilometers northwest of Dortmund and 24 kilometers northeast of Essen, in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Heavy police forces cordoned off the area, while men in protective suits searched the accommodation, according to the German News Agency (dpa).
The 32-year-old Iranian was arrested and will be brought before an investigator in the coming dayswhile the police made another arrest.
According to Bild newspaper, the German authorities were alerted a few days ago by a foreign intelligence agency about the risk of a chemical attack.
