Germany: Berlin will not stand in the way if Poland sends Leopard to Ukraine

Germany will not stand in the way if Poland sends German-made Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, German Foreign Minister Analena Burbock said in an interview with French television network LCI.

Asked what would happen if Poland goes ahead and sends its Leopard 2 tanks without Germany’s approval, Burbock said through an interpreter: “At the moment this issue has not been raised” by Poland, which is required to submit official request in Berlin, the minister clarified. “But if asked, we won’t stand in the way.”

Earlier, Poland said it would send its German-made tanks to Ukraine even if Germany did not and announced it would take a diplomatic initiative in Europe if Berlin did not.

“We will not stand idly by and watch Ukraine bleed to death,” Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki tweeted.
