Germany – Legislative proposal: The faces of the creators of the first vaccine against Covid-19 in euro banknotes

A lawmaker from the Free Democratic Party of Germany (FDP) has demanded that the faces of the German-Turkish couple behind the world’s first Covid vaccine appear on new euro banknotes, the BirGün newspaper reported, according to Ahvalnews.

Ugur Sahin and Ozlem Tureci have saved millions of Europeans, Moritz Körner told reporters, stressing that they have become important figures on the continent.

The remarks of the FDP legislator come at a time when euro banknotes are to be redesigned on the occasion of its 20th anniversary.

The founders of BioNTech, Sahin and Touretsi, are the co-creators of the first Covid-19 vaccine to be approved worldwide and have received international recognition for launching the “fight” against coronavirus less than a year after my outbreak. The Financial Times chose the couple as People of the Year for 2020.

Their lives tell an impressive story of integration, entrepreneurship, scientific excellence and the potential of an open immigration society, Körner told BirGün.

Sahin is the son of a Turkish worker who came to Germany as a child, while Touretsi is the daughter of a German-born Turkish doctor after her father moved from Istanbul.
