Germany seizes largest yacht in world – Belongs to Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov

German authorities have seized the world’s largest superyacht, following official confirmation that the vessel belonged to Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov.

German authorities barred the boat from sailing on March 3, according to a senior Biden government official familiar with the matter.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said last month that the boat had not been seized, but he was probably not allowed to leave his post from the port of Hamburg.

A German official confirmed to CNBC that the yacht was linked to Usmanov and was therefore subject to seizure of assets due to sanctions against Russia.

The 152-meter yacht, named “Dilbar” by his mother, is equipped with the largest indoor pool ever installed on a private boat. The US Treasury Department estimates that the yacht is currently valued at approximately $ 735 million.

Usmanov and his yacht were targeted by the United States and Europe last month when the Biden government announced additional sanctions on Russian elites with ties to the Kremlin.

A Treasury official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said any action by German authorities would not involve transporting the vessel to the United States as part of the sanctions imposed.

Sanctions essentially mean that any transaction related to the boat, including maintenance, hiring or paying mooring fees, is prohibited.
