At least one child was killed and another seriously injured yesterday Thursday when they were hit and dragged away by train in the city of Recklinghausen (west), writes in its electronic version n German tabloid Bild, citing local official.
The police limited themselves to confirming that a train carried away “several” young people, but refrained from giving further details. Other media reported that the minor children were between nine and ten years old and were playing in the old train station.
According to the newspaper report, the accident happened between two stations, where a freight train hit and dragged the victims for hundreds of meters.
The causes of the accident are not yet clear.
Earlier, reports said about 35 firefighters and first responders were deployed to the scene, near an old freight train depot, and were using UAVs to locate victims.
