As climate change shows its “teeth” with huge fires affecting more and more states, a new technology is being developed and specifically giant balloons to effectively prevent fires. The initiative belongs to Urban Sky, a start-up that designs high-altitude hot air balloons, and experimental tests were recently conducted in fire-fighting Colorado. Jared Leidich, co-founder and chief technology officer of Urban Sky, explained to CNN how the giant balloon will work and why he thinks it’s superior to satellites and drones.
