Global child vaccination rates remain stagnant and have not returned to pre-Covid-19 levels, the UN warned today. Compared to the 2019 level, 2.7 million more children were unvaccinated, or not fully vaccinated in 2023, Unicef and the World Health Organization said in a joint statement. “The latest trends show that many countries are still neglecting too many children,” said Unicef director-general Kathryn Russell. In 2023, only 84% of children (108 million), who were of an age when they should have been vaccinated with the diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (DPT) vaccine, had received all three doses necessary for their vaccination coverage, according to the data presented by the two services.
