Golden Globe 2022 takes place this Sunday with no audience and no broadcast

The Golden Globes, one of the biggest awards in TV and cinema in Hollywood, takes place next Sunday (9), at the Beverly Hilton hotel, in Los Angeles. However, this year, the ceremony will have a different format: no celebrities, no audience and not even broadcast.

Due to the new Covid-19 outbreak in the United States, driven by the Ômicron variant, the traditional red carpet will not happen. As well as the presence of the public and the press, which will not be allowed.

The event will be closed and exclusive to selected members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, responsible for organizing the awards, and guests. The information was released on the official website of the Golden Globes last Tuesday (4).

The ceremony will not be televised for the first time in years. That’s because the North American broadcaster NBC, responsible for the transmission, canceled the contract it had with the organizers after a controversy that started last year, in which the award was accused of lack of diversity among the members of the association that chooses the nominees and winners, which was reflected in results that followed a certain pattern.

Among the top nominees for the 2022 Golden Globes, with 9 nominations each, are the films: ‘Attack of Dogs’, with stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Kirsten Dunst, and ‘Belfast’, by director Kenneth Branagh, known for his works in ‘Thor’ and ‘Murder on the Orient Express’.

In the TV world, ‘Succession’ leads and fights for 5 awards. The series ‘The Morning Show’ and ‘Ted Lasso’ are also in contention, both with 4 nominations.

The Golden Globe awards the best film and television professionals annually and has established itself as one of the biggest thermometers for the Oscars.
