Fernanda Torres 59, joined an exclusive group this Monday (9). The actress became the third Brazilian nominated for a Golden Globe in the acting category and the fifth among all Brazilian artists to win this honor.
She competes for “I’m Still Here” in the category of Best Actress in a Drama Film . The production was also nominated for the Best Non-English Language Film .
The pioneer among Brazilians to receive a Golden Globe nomination, awarded by the Hollywood Foreign Press, was Sônia Braga. In 1986, she was nominated in the category of Best Supporting Actress for her performance in “Kiss of the Spider Woman”.
However, the award ended up being given to Meg Tilly by “Agnes de Deus”. Sônia Braga was again nominated for a Golden Globe in 1989, in the same category, for “Luar sobre Parador”, but lost to Sigourney Weaver, who won for her performance in “Uma Secretária de Futuro”.
She would also be nominated for a third time for a Golden Globe in 1995, in the category of Best Supporting Actress on Television, for her role in the miniseries “Amazônia em Chamas”.
Fernanda Montenegro was the second Brazilian to receive a Golden Globe nomination, in 1999, in the category of Best Actress in a Drama Film, for her performance in “Central do Brasil”. Although he lost the prize to Cate Blanchett who won for “Elizabeth”, Fernanda Torres’ mother was nominated for an Oscar in the same category.
“I’m Still Here” also competes in the category of Best Non-English Language Film . The nomination marks Brazil’s return to the award after 20 years. The last time a Brazilian production was nominated was in 2005, with “Motorcycle Diaries” (2004), also by Salles.
The ceremony of 82nd edition of the Golden Globes which serves as a barometer for the Oscars, is scheduled for January 5th in Los Angeles, in the United States. In Brazil, the awards ceremony will be broadcast on Paramount+ and TNT.
