“Good Morning, Veronica” is set to get a sequel

The story portrayed in “Good morning Veronica” must continue. According to the writer Raphael Montes one of the authors of the book, there are plans to make a trilogy, which will have two sequels: “Good Afternoon, Verônica” and “Good Night, Verônica”.

The first edition of the book, written by Montes with Ilana Casoy was published in 2016. “Good Morning, Verônica” became a series in 2020.

The suspense story about police officer Verônica Torres began, according to the writer, as a joke between the two. “It started as a joke between us, with a desire to tell a story together, and it was published under the pseudonym Andrea Killmore,” Montes told CNN . “At the time, I was also working as a screenwriter and I wanted to start doing my own projects.”

“So, Netflix did a survey of people who could make a police series in Brazil and they said my name,” he continued. “Then Netflix contacted me. I said, ‘Look, I read a book called ‘Good Morning, Veronica,’ written by a certain Andrea Killmore, and I wanted you to take a look at it because I think it could make a good series.’ They read it, liked it, and I proposed a series structure.”

Before the book was published, signed with the names of Montes and Casoy, it was signed by the character Killmore. “Andrea Killmore makes her debut with a book that is destined to become a reference in Brazilian crime literature,” reads the synopsis of the first edition, published by Darkside and signed by the pseudonym. “A close friend of danger, she is a revelation that cannot be revealed, and her true name remains a mystery. In another life, she was someone important within the police force. After working undercover on a case and suffering a great personal loss, she found herself forced to assume a new identity.”

“We negotiated, they found out that I was one of the authors of the book,” said Montes.

It was only in 2019 that the true authorship of the thriller was revealed. And the idea was not to summarize the story in just “Good Morning, Verônica”.

“The plan was to make ‘Good Afternoon, Veronica’ and ‘Good Night, Veronica’, but then we suffered from George Martin syndrome, where the series surpassed the book,” joked Raphael Montes. This is because the series has already ended with three seasons, while only the first volume has been published.

The case resembles that of the actor George R.R. Martin responsible for the book series “A Song of Ice and Fire” which originated the series “game of Thrones “. Martin published only five books with the story that has not yet been concluded, while the series had its plot wrapped up in its eighth season.

“We still want to write the book, we still have this project,” Montes continued in conversation with CNN . “But I don’t know exactly when because it takes time.”

“We still have projects together, but I still don’t know when we’ll do ‘Boa Tarde, Verônica’ and ‘Boa Noite, Verônica’. But it’s in the plans. And if there are books, the books will be different from the series. Just like ‘Bom Dia, Verônica’ itself is different from the series. There’s a whole case in the book that’s not in the series, Verônica herself is different,” he explained. “The first one is in the first book, with the second and third being original.”

The change in the adaptation is not just in having an ending (which for the books has not yet been defined), but in aspects of the plot and Verônica Torres herself.[A adaptação para série] “It included several things, for example, how Veronica transforms in each season,” he continued. “So each season there is an awakening of Veronica, each season brings a new nucleus, a new universe – which is established from the moment the book is sold as a series.”

“In the second season, we had already started a book called ‘Boa Tarde’, but by making the series we ended up transforming a lot of things. And for the third season, I remember us being in a room gathering ideas and the very strong premise of the final hunt episodes,” he said.

The writer also emphasizes the presence of actress Tainá Müller in the construction of the character. “Tainá dedicated herself a lot to this project and began to dress Verônica in such a way that, at times, she knew Verônica better than I did and she would call me, give me ideas about things, which I think was a very important dialogue.”

Good morning, Veronica. ” is available in bookstores with the 2022 edition of Companhia das Letras. The series with three seasons is in the catalog of Netflix .
