Google and Apple are investigated in Mexico for alleged anti-competitive practices

THE apple it’s the Google of Alphabet, are facing an investigation into anti-competitive practices in Mexico after the country’s former telecom chief filed a complaint, announced by him in a statement on Twitter on Friday (9).

The complaint was forwarded the day before to the telecommunications regulator of Mexico IFT, by Mony de Swaan Addati, who once headed the former federation of telecommunications later replaced by the organ.

Its complaint accuses Apple and Google of “completely inhibiting competition” by “taking advantage of their monopoly on app stores to link the use of their own payment processing systems to in-app purchases.”

In his online statement, de Swaan Addati said that Google and Apple stores charge 15% to 20% commission, forcing price inflation.

Google declined to comment. Apple and IFT were not immediately available for comment.

De Swaan Addati added that Mexico’s competition regulator had turned down his request to open an investigation against the companies, causing him to take his case to the IFT.
