Microsoft officially ended support for Windows 7 for ordinary users on January 14, 2020. After the end of the support period for Windows 7, Google announced that it will continue to support the Chrome browser for this system for another year and a half (until July 15, 2021). Later, Google announced a new deadline – until January 15, 2022, and now the search giant has again extended support for another year. As such, Google will support Chrome for Windows 7 until at least January 15, 2023.
Google Chrome’s support page says the browser will only receive critical security updates and bug fixes, similar to how Microsoft provides updates for Windows 7 through the ESU program. This decision suggests that Windows 7 still has a significant number of Chrome installations, although Google has not disclosed details. Other Chromium-based browsers are likely to extend support for another year as well. For example, Mozilla continues to support Firefox for Windows 7, although the company did not provide a support deadline for its browser.
Microsoft’s native Microsoft Edge browser for Windows 7 will be supported by the company until January 15, 2023. As for Internet Explorer 11, its support will end on June 15, 2022, and for all platforms at once.
