Google announced on Tuesday (24) new updates for Street View, a tool that allows you to explore streets and avenues in different regions of the world through 360° and 290° panoramic images. The new features include the expansion of images in almost 80 countries, including Brazil.
Second statement released by Googlethe updated Street View images include countries such as Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Denmark, France, Iceland, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, Rwanda, Serbia, Spain, South Africa, Switzerland, Uruguay, among others . Some countries will have images displayed in the tool for the first time.
In addition to updates to Street View, Google announced new features in the Google Earth service, a tool that allows you to explore the world through satellite images and geospatial data. What’s new is the addition of new historical images for the web and mobile — some of them date back up to 80 years, according to the company, which allows the user to “travel in time” through the tool.
With the Google Earth update, it will be possible to analyze the evolution of the geography of different locations around the globe. One example is a 2018 image of Lake Oroville, a reservoir in Northern California that has seen a significant reduction in water following multi-year droughts. When compared with an image from 2023, it is possible to notice that the reservoir returned to its maximum capacity after a period of intense rain. See below:
Finally, Google also announced that it is improving satellite images on Google Earth and Google Maps with new artificial intelligence (AI) models. One of the new features is cloud removal technology, which will make images of the globe clearer. The feature is realized through the “Cloud Score+” AI model, trained on millions of images to recognize and remove clouds, cloud shadows, fog and haze.
At the same time, this model keeps real-world weather patterns — such as ice, snow and mountain shadows — visible on the map, according to the company.
Google will make it easier to remove personal information from search
