Last September, YouTube launched its TikTok rival, YouTube Shorts, originally in India. YouTube Shorts launched a beta in the US earlier this year and launched in the rest of the world in July.
YouTube Shorts is currently available in over 100 countries, but has yet to gain the same popularity as TikTok and Instagram Reels. To encourage more people to create content for the platform, YouTube has set up a $ 100 million fund and is going to pay content creators up to $ 10,000 a month.

YouTube Chief Product Officer Neal Mohan shared more information. The company plans to start paying creators this month, but there are certain conditions: “The popularity required to make money will depend on how many people watch the shorts each month, as well as where each creator’s audience is.”
Creators must post original videos to be eligible for payout, and re-uploads or watermarked videos from other platforms will prevent their channel from receiving payments. At the moment, YouTube has expanded the program to 10 regions, including the United States, the United States, India and Brazil, and plans to expand the list of countries.
YouTube will use this fund to pay content creators over the next year and will eventually replace the Shorts Fund with a “long-term scalable monetization program.” The company has no plans to advertise on YouTube Shorts, so it remains to be seen how the platform will generate revenue.
