the reboot of “Gossip Girl” was canceled by HBO Max after two seasons. The final episode will be released next Thursday (26).
The showrunner of the series, Joshua Safran shared and lamented the streaming decision on social media.
“Here’s some gossip: It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce that Gossip Girl will not continue on HBO Max,” he wrote.
Despite the sad news for fans, Safran said he is looking for another stream to host the production.
“We are currently looking for another home, but in this climate, this could be an uphill battle and if this is the end, at least we come out on the highest of highs,” he commented.
In the post, he thanked the studio for their faith and support, the writers for their skillful talent, the cast for their collaboration and friendship, and the team behind the camera for their dedication and love for the project.
“This was honestly the best set I’ve ever worked on, top to bottom,” he wrote.
Finally, he thanked the fans of Gossip Girl: “You are the reason why we came back in the first place and, who knows, maybe the reason why we will meet again”, he concluded.
What is a reboot
It is a new version of a work, which is not linked to the previous one, but which takes advantage of elements and is set in the same universe.
The production launched in 2021 is a reboot of the Gossip Girl series, which aired between 2007 and 2012.
The series was a huge phenomenon at the time, bringing the glamor and sophistication of the Upper East Side, in New York, to the small screen.
There is even “Gossip Girl Day”, celebrated on January 26, which was decreed by the then mayor of New York, Michael Bloomberg in 2012, in celebration of the production’s 100th episode.
The original production stars Leighton Meester Blake Lively Ed Westwick , Penn Badgley and Chace Crawford .
While the reboot relies on Jordan Alexander , Whitney Peak , Tavi Gevinson , Eli Brown , Thomas Doherty and Emily Alyn Lind .
The two plots follow elite young people from the Upper East Side and the dramas they get involved in, which is exposed by a blog.
