Government estimates primary deficit of BRL 79.3 billion for 2022

The budget for this year sanctioned by President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) last Friday (21) estimates a primary deficit of BRL 79.3 billion, an amount lower than the amount initially planned by the federal government, of BRL 170.5 billion.

The information was forwarded to CNN Brasil by assistants of the economic team. According to them, the projection was reduced in view of the increase, by the National Congress, of the primary revenue forecasts.

The text, which will be published this Monday (24) in the “Official Gazette”, provides for a total expenditure amount of R$ 4.7 trillion, of which R$ 1.9 trillion is related to public debt.

The proposal, according to members of the economic team, also establishes a budget forecast of R$ 89.1 billion for Auxílio Brasil, a new social program launched by the current administration, and a forecast of R$ 1.7 trillion for the spending ceiling.

The sanction, according to court ministers, also establishes vetoes to budget programs for the fulfillment of mandatory expenses. To meet the demands, the federal government will open extraordinary credits in the future through legislative projects.

The budget also maintains a forecast of R$ 1.7 billion for the restructuring of federal careers, without specifying, however, which categories will be covered.

The president announced last week that the raise for federal police officers will be suspended, but not cancelled. The nod occurs in the face of pressure from sectors of the civil service for salary readjustments.
