Government of Minas Gerais announces aid for people affected by rains

According to the government of Minas Gerais, more than 60,000 people homeless or displaced as a result of the rains in the state will each receive R$ 400 in three installments starting in February.

This Tuesday (18), the governor of Minas, Romeu Zema (Novo), announced the measure, as part of the Recupera Minas plan — created to contain the damage caused by the heavy rains that hit the state, the plan will allocate R$ 600 million in state resources.

In a virtual press conference, the governor said that “we are going to create aid for the homeless, so that those who had their homes destroyed are able to go through this difficult time. In other words, a family of five will receive R$ 2 thousand per month”.

According to the Secretary-General of the State, Mateus Simões, people registered as homeless or displaced by their municipalities until last Monday (17) will be included in the benefit.

In addition to the aid, the government also announced differentiated measures in water and energy tariffs in places affected by heavy rains. The charge may be suspended, in some cases, or paid in up to 24 installments.

Part of the affected population will also benefit from refrigerators donated by Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais (Cemig).

“These appliances will be distributed proportionally to the number of low-income families in municipalities in a situation of emergency or public calamity as a result of the rains and that have a Human Development Index (HDI) lower than 0.6”, explains the statement. .
