Government of RS hires company to audit donations received by Pix

The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (PSDB), stated, during a press conference held in the early afternoon of this Monday (13), that the government of Rio Grande do Sul hired a company to audit the donations received by Pix to assist the victims of the rains that have been affecting the state for two weeks.

“I thank each and every person who donated. All of this will be placed with absolute transparency, next to our official portals, with a list of the people who will be served and the possibility of audits. Ernst & Young [EY] should audit the Pix account of people's donations, to ensure that everyone is using these resources correctly”, said the governor.

Until Monday morning, the amount that had already been raised via Pix was just over R$95 million. The channel for receiving donations via Pix was created at the beginning of this month.

The government of Rio Grande do Sul informs that, on May 5th, it created the Management Committee of the SOS Rio Grande do Sul account. The group is made up of public and private entities and “will be responsible for defining actions, measures and distribution criteria for donations destined for victims of the floods and collected by the channel’s Pix key”.

A CNN contacted EY to comment on the case, but has not yet received a response.

Large volume donations

Leite also announced that the government of Rio Grande do Sul created a 0800 number to assist people or entities that have donations in excess of one ton. The objective is to facilitate delivery logistics, defining locations and times so that materials can be routed in an optimized manner.

The telephone number is 0800-2055151 and is open daily, between 7am and 9pm.

For volumes of less than one ton, Leite advises donors to consult the SOS Rio Grande do Sul website to check which items are most needed and where donations should be taken.

The governor added that an application is being tested so that volunteers working in the field can receive information about where they should go.
