Government receives 24th authorization request in railway network expansion program

This Thursday (11), the Ministry of Infrastructure received the 24th request for railway authorization in the Pro Rails project, which encourages the expansion of the national railway network.

The order was made by the company Eldorado Brasil Celulose and aims to expand the rail network in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul.

According to the minister, the company intends to create and operate a new 88.9-kilometer railway, with an investment of R$ 890 million, between the cities of Três Lagoas and Aparecida do Taboado.

The project will be used to transport cargo estimated at 1.7 million tons of pulp per year.

After Eldorado’s request, the federal government has already gathered 24 requests of the type under analysis under the Pro Trilhos program.

Together, the 24 orders represent R$ 100.92 billion in planned investments and 7,590.69 kilometers of new tracks, crossing 14 states, according to the folder.

Requests are appreciated by the team of the National Land Transport Secretariat (SNTT), with technical support from the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT).

Legal Framework for Railways

The Legal Framework for Railways advances in the National Congress, after approval by the Federal Senate.

The text must now be analyzed by the Chamber of Deputies. If approved without changes in the text by the deputies, the processing is concluded and the project goes to the sanction of President Jair Bolsonaro (no party).
