Great transformation of 5G will be for the industry, says expert

The great transformation provided by the 5G it’s not going to be for the consumer, but for the industry. This is the assessment of the executive editor of MIT Technology Review Brazil and specialist in technological trends, Rafael Coimbra, in an interview with CNN Radio.

He sees the 5G auction, which takes place this Thursday (4), as the “beginning of the new generation of the internet”. Rafael highlights that Brazil is late in this race, as the connection has been in place since 2019 in countries like South Korea.

“The time has come to build the internet of the future,” he added.

The expert said that the consumer will also feel the effects of 5G, with improved access, more fluid video calls, but that industry sectors, such as robotics and telemedicine, will have the greatest transformations.

“We will not stop communicating, but the machines will start talking to each other, we will need a robust network with data support, as we will increase the amount of things that will have to be interconnected accurately and quickly,” he explained.

An interesting analogy, according to Rafael Coimbra, is with the water pipe. When the capacity is increased, the water volume also increases. And the opening and closing of the faucet should be more agile.

In the world of instant communication, this “turn on and off” of the faucet will no longer be noticed. “A feeling of ubiquity of the internet is expected.”

Coimbra also made a reservation. “It’s a world that will become more challenging, starting in the middle of next year, with the implementation of 5G in capitals, in a small way. And it will take 10 years until we have the 5G in full function. Only, in 2030, it will already have 6G. Brazil cannot be left behind in the technological race and increase digital inequality.”
