Greek ships are targeted by large charterers

By George George

The container ships of the Greek shipowners are attractive for purchases and charters, as indicated by three big deals that are said to have closed in the last few days.

Initially, shipping broker Braemar Shipbroking said the world’s leading regular airline company, the Danish Maersk, was expected to buy two containerships, with a capacity of 3,800 TEUs each, which it had chartered, spending a total of $ 109 million.

Shipping brokers point out that these steamers are currently under the control of Vangelis Marinakis’ Capital Ship. Specifically, they seem to belong to the “group” of containerships that the shipping company bought in the first months of the year from German interests.

If the transaction is confirmed, it will be an “asset play” move, as the sale price of the two containerships is higher than the amount paid by Capital to buy them.

Those who moved “smartly” and bought tonnage in the first days of 2021, today take advantage of the “launch” of values in containerships and sell at record levels.

The Marinaki group manages a fleet of a total of 108 steamers, which are active in all key sectors.

Aggeliki Frangou’s Navios Maritime Partners agreed with tenants of known value for ten containerships of its fleet. The deals are expected to generate revenue of $ 690 million, while their long duration offers resilience to the volatility of the shipping market.

Specifically, six ships under construction, with a capacity of 5,300 TEUs each, which they ordered during the summer, were closed for charters of 60-64 months, for $ 37,050 per day.

At the same time, three containerships, with a capacity of 4,250 TEUs each, “locked” for 50-54 months and another of the same capacity for 42-44 months.

Navios Maritime Partners manages 54 bulk carriers, 45 tankers and 43 containerships.

Finally, Aristides Pitta’s Euroseas acquired a ship, which is accompanied by a long charter.

As the company announced last night, the 6,350 TEUs with a capacity of 2005, “Leo Paramount” was acquired for $ 40 million. The steamer will be delivered to Euroseas by the end of the year and will be renamed “Marcos V”.

Mr. Pittas stressed that the ship will be chartered with a “first class charterer” for three years, for $ 42,200 per day, with the possibility of extension for another year.

After the delivery of the ship, the company will manage 16 containerships, while it expects the construction of two more steamers, which it ordered in the summer.
