The largest bank of Guatemala Banco Industrial began to cooperate with the Sukupay cryptocurrency payment service to offer customers the service of international transfers using blockchain.

Sukupay CEO Jonathan Lapchik said that Sukupay infrastructure is built into the Zigi payment application. Customers from Guatemala have the opportunity to receive money from the United States for a fixed fee of $ 0.99. Users of the Zigi application do not need a cryptocurrency address or international bank account (IBAN) to get funds.

The lapchik is sure that the key to the mass introduction of blockchain technology is to make it simple for the user and not put technical barriers. According to the head of Sukupay, this is the only way to make blockchain accessible to billions of people without forcing them to study how the technology itself works.

Banco Industrial predicts that in 2024 the volume of money transfers to Latin America and the Caribbean Basin will be estimated at $ 161 billion. Usually the average monthly money transfers number $ 131 to $ 648, which ranges from 6% to 23% of the sender’s income. The lapchik said that one Guatemala annually receives money transfers for $ 21 billion, and people lose 6-10% due to commissions and delays. The Guatemens who left for the United States send to relatives $ 300–400 per month, and families cannot afford to wait a few days to get money.

“Cryptocurrencies solve this problem when they are used correctly. They allow you to transfer money instantly and cheaply. Stebblecoins greatly simplify international transactions. To do this, only integration into banking applications that people already use, ”said Lapchik.

Recently, the chairman of O’leary Ventures, Kevin O’leary, said that many payment services are actively opposed to stablecoins, since the platforms that charge of payments of large commissions may lose their income.
