Two gunmen not only released one prisoner through a court but also robbed the… investigator to whom the suspect was to testify, as it became known today by the judicial authorities of the city of Bouake, in Ivory Coast.
The detainee had been transferred from prison to the Bouake court of first instance to testify as part of a gang investigation, armed robbery and illegal possession of weapons and ammunition.
But when he arrived at the interrogator’s office, accompanied by a police officer, two men armed with automatic weapons managed to enter. They disarmed the policeman and tied up everyone in the investigative office – including a lawyer.
To escape, the perpetrators stripped the police officer and the detainee wore his uniform so as not to be targeted, a court source said, requesting anonymity. They then left unmolested, in the interrogator’s black car, after previously taking an unspecified amount of money and a laptop from their victims.
Bouquet’s attorney general, Brahman Cone, told AFP that the case was “an insult that will not go unpunished”.
