Hacker attacks demonstrated government security deficiency, expert says

Different federal government websites have been the target of hacker attacks in recent weeks: Ministry of Health, ConectaSUS, Information System of the National Immunization Program, Federal Comptroller General, Federal Highway Police, among others.

For example, the Lapsus$ Group, the hacker group that took over the attack on the Ministry of Health’s website and systems earlier this month, said it was also responsible for taking down the Correios website – which was down for two hours this Thursday morning (23).

In an interview with CNN, the lawyer specializing in Digital Law, Luiza Leite, said that this undue access to the technological environments of these entities, and the inability to deal with these incidents and with the protection of citizens’ data, demonstrate a deficiency in the government’s information security mechanisms.

“We need the government to establish procedures for greater security within these sites. In addition to the platforms where we have a very large collection of personal data from citizens, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic”, he said.
