When we reach a goal in our life, we want to share that achievement with all our loved ones, but sometimes they cannot attend the ceremonies, either due to work or illness. Sadly, Filipino student Jeric Rivas broke down in tears during his graduation because his family has never been there to support him at his important events.
As unbelievable as it may sound, Jeric has shown up to most of his graduations all alone. However, I hoped that things would change during the end of the year at the university, but it did not happen. Her story went viral on social media due to the mixture of melancholy and courage in it.
Loneliness has been his only company
He described his graduation day as the saddest of his life. Although he was happy to reach a goal and finish his studies, sadness invaded him because his family did not support him and he burst into tears in front of those present.
After receiving a strong hug from his classmates, he explained that when he was in elementary school he won a school award and one of his relatives had to accompany him to place a medal, but no one accompanied him and he decided not to go on stage to accept his recognition. Years later, history repeated itself over and over again, until in high school the father of one of his friends offered to help him. Despite the man’s sweet gesture, Jeric had a deep wound in his soul.
An exemplary student
Although his experiences in graduations and school recognitions have not been the best, he did not give up and continued until he obtained his pass to college. To achieve this, he had to move house and combine his studies with a part-time job, sacrifices that paid off greatly when he earned his degree in Criminology.
Although his family has not accompanied him in his achievements, his teachers and colleagues did not hesitate to offer him warm applause, some beautiful words and recognize his courage in the face of adversity.
