“He got sick and attacked me”, says owner who had a dog poisoned more than a month ago in Rio

Minas Gerais publicist Izabela Falci told CNN who had her dog Dior, a French bulldog, poisoned at the beginning of May. The case took place in Jardim Oceânico, in the Barra da Tijuca region, west of Rio de Janeiro, where other animals were also contaminated.

Izabela explained the dog’s recovery process. According to her, after taking the animal for a walk, he started to feel sick and attacked her, something he had never done.

After the animal vomited and she realized it was having abdominal pain, she took it to a veterinary clinic, where pancreatitis, peritonitis and severe gastritis were found.

She suspects that the animal was accidentally poisoned by rat poison, popularly called chumbinho, or by chlorine, thrown on sidewalks for cleaning.

According to the owner, other residents of the region had their animals with the same symptoms. Rio City Hall cleaned the sidewalks in the region.

Now, Dior the dog continues treatment at home.

Izabela and other residents presented veterinary reports and gave statements.

The Civil Police investigate cases of poisoning in dogs in the region.

At least 40 dogs poisoned

Also in the west zone, residents and veterinarians reported the alleged poisoning of around 40 dogs to the Civil Police.

The suspicion is that someone placed poison in the flower beds in the region.

On Saturday (8), Comlurb, which is the Municipal Urban Cleaning Company in Rio, cleaned the sidewalks and flowerbeds in the region to try to avoid new contamination.

Recently, actor Cauã Reymond had his two dogs, Romeu and Shakira, poisoned.

According to the actor, the animals may have been poisoned by eating meat containing pellets, a type of poison for rats.

Romeo, the pet, did not survive and passed away on Saturday (8), while Shakira remains in hospital undergoing treatment.
