After the disappearance of his son in 1997, Guo Gangtang, now 51 years old, did not hesitate to go looking for him without caring at all. This led him to travel more than 500 thousand kilometers through some 20 provinces throughout China on a motorcycle. His intention was to find some clue.
The process was hard, exhausting and overwhelming, the hopes seemed to disappear for a few moments, but the love for his son kept him on his feet. On his crusade he carried a banner with his son’s photo. Local media claim that he spent all his life savings and that on many occasions he had to sleep under a bridge or ask for money when he ran out of cash. But he never lost faith or gave up.
In his search he ended up being a member of organizations of missing persons in China. He even helped seven parents reunite with their children.
Guo’s experience was a source of inspiration for the film Lost and Love (2015), starring Asian star Andy Lau. However, it was not until June of this year and after some DNA tests that Guo found his son, who is now a man and claims to have had a good life.
Their reunion was full of tears, doubts and too many questions, but a single look full of love was enough to solve everything. Now they hope to make up for lost time and heal their wounds. In addition, they want other people to have the happiness of being reunited with the beings that were once taken from their arms.
