Health estimates to acquire 18.2 million more Covid tests in February and March

The Ministry of Health intends to acquire another 18.2 million tests for the detection of the coronavirus to be distributed by the SUS (Sistema Único de Saúde) in February and March.

The calculation is made by the minister, Marcelo Queiroga, according to which the antigen tests will be provided by Fiocruz (Fundação Oswaldo Cruz), which has been producing the material since last year.

The expectation is that most of the tests will be provided to states such as São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro, where the demand for testing is usually higher.

The forecast is that, this Monday (31), about 13.1 million antigen tests are distributed to the states of the country.

The intention, disclosed by the ministry in January, was to deliver 28.2 million tests this month, and 15.1 million tests have been received so far.

In all, the federal government has delivered 43.8 million rapid tests since September 2021, when the National Covid-19 Testing Expansion Plan (PNE-Teste) was launched.

However, it is behind schedule with the planned schedule, which was to send about 60 million antigen tests by the end of last year.
