The Ministry of Health released this Friday (27) a technical note (nº 35/2022) in which it recommends the application of the booster dose [3ª dose] of the Covid-19 vaccine for adolescents aged 12 to 17 years.
According to the text, at the present time, “the importance of complete vaccination is emphasized since there is a tendency to reduce the effectiveness of vaccines against Covid-19 over time, and therefore, immunizations must be used. available in the country to ensure booster doses for all eligible individuals.”
The indication of Saúde is for the booster dose to be applied four months after the second injection – with the Pfizer vaccine preferably. If there is no availability, the Coronavac immunizer can be used.
According to the folder, the choice of the most suitable immunizer for booster should be based on immunological criteria, adverse events, availability of the immunizer and epidemiological scenario.
In immunocompromised adolescents, only the Pfizer vaccine should be used. Young pregnant or postpartum women at the time of vaccination should receive the Pfizer immunizer as a priority, and as an alternative to Coronavac.
The decision took into account the “safety observation of countries that recommended the booster dose for the population in this age group, as well as the epidemiological scenario in relation to cases of Covid-19, in addition to the evidence demonstrating a reduction in the protective response of the regimen of 2 doses for the Ômicron variant”, says the text.
