A section at km 321 of the BR-381 highway, in the municipality of Nova Era, Minas Gerais, sank, completely interdicting traffic in the area.
According to the National Department of Infrastructure and Transport (DNIT), the displacement of land occurred due to the large volume of water and soil saturation, called “slope shear”, causing the break in the runway.
The agency informed that the technical teams are evaluating what measures will be taken, as there is still movement of earth at the site, making restoration work impossible.
“The recovery of this stretch of the BR-381/MG is a priority for the DNIT and will be carried out as soon as possible, since the soil is still saturated. The objective is to restore traffic in the shortest possible time”, said the DNIT in a note.
The rains in Minas Gerais have already caused 25 deaths, left 26,492 people homeless and 4,047 homeless. The total number of municipalities in emergency situation reached 374.
Throughout Brazil, according to a survey by the CNN Agency, more than 125,200 people were left out of their homes after the storms.
Coming from Governador Valadares via BR-116, continue to Caratinga. In Caratinga, access the MG-329 and continue to Rio Casca. In Rio Casca, follow the BR-262 until João Monlevade, now on the BR-381;
Route suggested by truck drivers: coming from Governador Valadares, take the MG-758 in Belo Oriente and head towards Guanhães and Itabira. Return to BR-381 in São Gonçalo;
For those who are in Ipatinga, access the BR-458 and then the BR-116 to Caratinga. In Caratinga, access the MG-329 and continue to Rio Casca. In Rio Casca, follow the BR-262 until João Monlevade, now on the BR-381.
