A helicopter crashed near a kindergarten and a residential building in the Ukrainian town of Brovary in the Kive region on Wednesday, according to Oleksiy Kuleba, head of the regional military administration.
“At the time of the tragedy, there were children and staff in the kindergarten. TAll have been removed from the site,” he wrote on Telegram.
At least 16 people were killed, Ukrainian police said.
National Police Chief Ihor Klymenko said nine of the dead were on board the aircraft. Two of the dead were children, he said.
Another 22 people are hospitalized, including 10 children, he added.
Ukraine’s Interior Minister Denis Monastyrsky is among the fatalities, said the head of the Ukrainian national police, Ihor Klymenko.
“The accident killed the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs – the Minister, the First Deputy Minister and the Secretary of State,” Klymenko said.
