Henry case: Jairinho’s testimony is postponed and Monique is excused from interrogation

The interrogation of former councilor Jairo Souza Santos Junior, Dr. Jairinho, was postponed, this Friday (13), for the second time by the 2nd Criminal Court of Rio, in the case of the death of Henry Borel.

At the request of the defense, he will be heard on June 13. The testimony had already been postponed once, in the last week, when June 1 was set for the interrogation of the former councilman.

Monique Medeiros, Henry’s mother and also a defendant in the case, was excused from attending. The defense argued that she already testified for about 11 hours in February this year. She has been under house arrest for a month.

The former councilor and the teacher are accused by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of triple qualified homicide for the death of Henry Borel, aged 8, on March 8 of last year. The boy reportedly suffered torture in the apartment where they lived in Barra da Tijuca, West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. Both deny the crimes.

In addition to Jairinho, criminal experts Leonardo Tauil and assistant coach Sami El Jundi, appointed by the former councilor’s lawyers, will also be heard.

Process progress

The testimony of the former councilor is the last step before the trial. On February 8, Jairinho refused to answer questions in deposition. Monique Medeiros gave her version of the facts for about 11 hours.

With the end of the investigation of the case, the judge of the case, Elizabeth Machado Louro, will decide between five options for the trial of both: popular jury, acquittal, dismissal (suspension of trial), disqualification of the crime of homicide or you can choose different for each defendant.
